Update: Man charged in Searcy murder

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) – A man arrested in the shooting death of a Searcy woman has been charged with first degree murder.

25-year-old Kelon Lamar Jackson was arrested in North Little Rock around 4:30 Friday afternoon on outstanding warrants out of the Searcy Police Department for terroristic threatening, and harassing communications.

Jackson was named a "person of interest" after the body of Mahala Hutchins was found lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body.

Around 9:15 Friday morning, officers were called to the St. Charles Apartments in the 400-block of South Sherwood Drive.

Jackson has been charged with first degree murder, a Y class felony. He will be transported to the White County Detention Center and be held on $500,000 bond.

The court date for this case is still pending.
