LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

The Bossier City bomb squad that responded to the Albertsons in Longview on reports of a suspicious device has detonated the device and the area has been deemed safe.

Longview Police have re-opened the store and the area to normal traffic.

Sunday afternoon a couple noticed a pipe in the bed of their truck as they were arriving at Albertsons located near the intersection of west Loop 281 and McCann road in Longview. The couple called then called police.

"The device appeared to be a plastic pipe with a cap on each end. to be safe we evacuated the parking lot," says Longview police officer Kristie Brian.

"I'm in this parking lot every day and its always crowded so i always see kids and i couldn't imagine if it had gone off," says witness Wesley Boyd.

Upon arrival, Longview police roped off the area and called in the Bossier City bomb squad to investigate the suspicious device further. The owners of the truck describe the device as a foot long plastic pipe with plastic caps glued to the end of it.

The Bossier City bomb squad detonated the device and the area was deemed safe.

"Can't say it was a hoax , don't know how it got into the pickup," Brian says.

Longview Public Information Officer says the pipe just had shredded paper in it.

Thursday, Longview Police said the investigation was essentially over because the object was not an explosive.

After reviewing store surveillance video, authorities saw no one put any object in the bed of the truck. Officials still do not know where the pipe came from.
