NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – Newport police arrest two men suspected in a Sunday night robbery.
According to Lt. Patrick Weatherford with NPD, two men were pulled over on Highway 69 after an officer spotted them speeding.
During that traffic stop, a 9-1-1 call came in to the Newport police that two people in Lockwood Park had just been robbed.
The officer arrested James Trevor Turner and Anthony Carlton Buckelew.
The victims say the two men approached them at the park. They say Turner grabbed the man's wallet, which had $380 in it, while Buckelew busted out the driver's side rear window of the victim's vehicle and held a knife to the victim's neck.
Buckelew and Turner then reportedly drove off. They were later pulled over by Newport police.
Officers found the stolen cash and a sheath for a fixed blade knife along the path the two men supposedly took after the robbery.
They were taken to the Jackson County Detention Center. Both men are set to appear in Newport District Court on Tuesday.
