JONESBORO, AR - The field of candidates running for Mayor of Jonesboro continues to expand.

Jonesboro Fire Chief Butch Herring became a surprise candidate late Monday afternoon when he issued a news release stating his intentions to file his candidacy for the office today.

Herring is a 22-year veteran of the JFD.  He is a 1979 graduate of Westside High School, and a 1999 graduate of Arkansas State University.  He joins five other candidates who have either filed or announced their intentions to run for the office, including Jonesboro police sergeant Doug Formon, businessmen Travis Moore, Dan Pierce and Paul Bednar, and nurse Kevin Rhodes.

Veteran Mayor Hubert Brodell recently announced that he will not seek re-election, and plans to retire when his term ends on December 31.  Brodell has held the office since 1987.
