A slow start by the Eagles from Williams Baptist College doomed them against the Spartans from Missouri Baptist College Saturday. The American Midwest Conference game was played in the Southerland-Mabee Center in Walnut Ridge, and it ended 88-75 in favor of MBU.
The Spartans opened the game hot from the field, leading 45-27 at halftime. The Eagles tried to muster a comeback in the second half but the closest they got was 10 points with five minutes remaining.
Kyle Harvey recorded a double-double for Williams, scoring 14 with 13 rebounds. Rashad Danzy scored 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and Dustin House hit two three-point buckets on his way to scoring 10 points.
WBC shot 45 percent from the floor in the game, but only 4-of-13 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Spartans shot 47 percent from the floor.
The loss leaves WBC in a tie for fourth place in the AMC at 8-6 in conference and 17-10 overall. The fourth seed will host an opening round game in the AMC tournament.
The Eagles will jump back on their home court on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The school will honor six seniors on that night.
