Submarine to Arrive at Little Rock Harbor This Afternoon

AUGUST 3, 2004 - Posted at 8:30 a.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The USS Razorback is expected to leave Pine Bluff at daybreak today and arrive at Little Rock Harbor Services by mid-afternoon.

The World War II-era submarine is traveling between two barges.  The sub will be the centerpiece of the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock.  The decommissioned submarine has traveled 7,000 miles from Turkey, which sold it to North Little Rock for $1.

The sub arrived at Pine Bluff last night.

North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays said the sub would stay at the harbor just short of North Little Rock until the city brings her across the Arkansas River for a grand entrance.  Hays said more details are likely Thursday or Friday.
