JONESBORO, AR - An inmate working with a crew on the Arkansas State University campus escaped today in a pickup truck.

Prison officials say James P. Hall managed to slip away in a black pick-up truck while the rest of the crew was cleaning a ditch.  He was serving two-and-a-half years for second degree battery and theft of property charges out of Poinsett and Craighead counties.

A K8 News photographer said the remaining work detail crew inmates have been loaded onto a bus on the ASU campus while a search for Hall is underway.

He would have been eligible for parole December 7.  He was wearing his white prison uniform at the time of the escape.
