RECTOR, AR (KAIT) – The main suspect in a February Clay County shooting has been sentenced for attempted murders.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington, Adam Hackworth, 29, pleaded guilty to two attempted capital murder charges.

Hackworth was sentenced to two 35 year prison terms, one for each attempted murder charge. He was also sentenced 20 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm and another six year for having a sawed-off shotgun, which is a prohibited weapon.

On February 22, Rector police were called to a home on Crest Street and found a man shot in the abdomen and a woman lying beaten in a vacant lot adjacent to the home, with a sawed-off shotgun on the ground next to her.

Police found Hackworth running toward Highway 90 covered in blood. According to investigators, Hackworth was an ex-boyfriend of the female victim.
