BESSEMER, Ala. (2/23/13) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team is in second place and has an 8-2 record after day two of competition at the Holiday City Classic in Bessemer, Ala.
The Red Wolves began the day with a loss to No. 8 Sam Houston State 948-907, but bounced back to defeat No. 15 Valparaiso 844-822. A-State won 1071-926 over Texas Southern in their match, but came up short of a victory in their fourth match against Jackson State as the Red Wolves lost 909-885. ASU was able to end the day on a high note in their fifth match by defeating Tulane 1076-799.
A-State enters Sunday's bracket play as the No. 2 seed with a total pinfall of 8,744. Vanderbilt is the No. 1 seed with a total pinfall of 8,788 and will face the Red Wolves in the first match of the day on Sunday.
"It wasn't a great day win and loss wise, but we had two really good sets against Texas Southern and Tulane," ASU bowling coach Justin Kostick said. "Hopefully we can win that first match against Vanderbilt and then against whomever we'd face in the championship match to get that first tournament championship."
Arkansas State will compete in the bracket play portion of the tournament Sunday looking for their first tournament title of the season.
