JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) - Arkansas State University's Trey Finn has been recognized as this week's College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week per an announcement made this Monday (Feb. 25).
Finn helped the Red Wolves claim their second SBC West Division title in the last threeseasons with 13 points and five rebounds in a 58-50 conference regular-season home finale victory over Troy last Saturday (Feb. 23) night at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark. The A-State senior guard also contributed three assists and one steal in 36 minutes while connecting on all five of his free throws.
Finn, who was tabbed as College Sports Madness' SBC Player of the Week earlier this month (Feb. 4), is averaging a team third-most 10.4 points per contest (271 pts.) and ranks second in rebounding with a 4.8 boards a game (124 rebs.) average. A starter in all 26 outings played in this campaign, Finn has compiled season totals of 46 assists, nine blocked shots, and 37 steals while averaging 33 minutes a game. The 2012-13 College Sports Madness All-SBC Preseason Second-Team honoree has registered double-digit points on 14 occasions, which includes a season-high 23 points at Western Kentucky (2/9).
A 2011-12 College Sports Madness All-SBC Second-Team selection, Finn presently ranks tied for 17th among the Sun Belt Conference leaders in scoring (11.7 ppg.) ,19th in rebounding (5.1 rpg.), sixth in free-throw percentage (77.9%), tied for seventh in steals (1.6 spg.), eighth in three-point field goals made (2.1 avg.), and 12th in three-point field goal percentage (35.9%) in conference games only.
Finn currently ranks 17th on ASU's all-time leaders list in scoring with 1,124 career points while his 646 career rebounds represents the 12th most. The Little Rock, Ark., native is third in both steals (156) and three-point field goals made(179) while ranking 10th in three-point field goal percentage (38.7%).
The honor bestowed upon Finn marks the fourth time this season in which an A-State player has garnered SBC Player of the Week kudos by College Sports Madness. Junior guard Ed Townsel (Jan. 7) and senior forward Brandon Peterson (Feb. 18) were previously recognized.
Arkansas State, which is 18-9 overall and 12-6 in the SBC's West Division to date this season, has posted a current four-game winning streak. ASU's 18 victories represents the program's most since 1998-99 when the Red Wolves went 18-12 overall.
A-State closes out its 2012-13 regular-season schedule this week with a pair of SBC West Division away encounters. The Red Wolves tangle with the North Texas Mean Green this Thursday (Feb. 28) in a 7 p.m. (CT) contest at Denton, Texas. ASU takes on instate rival UALR Trojans this Saturday (March 2) in its regular-season finale at Little Rock, Ark., starting at 7 p.m. (CT).
