AR Unemployment Rate Down Slightly

August 6, 2004 - Posted at 8:20 PM CDT

LITTLE ROCK (AP) _ The state reported today that nominal increases in construction helped push Arkansas' unemployment rate down slightly in July.

The 5.6% jobless rate last month was 0.1% lower than the June rate, and the 1.2 million Arkansans who had work comprised the highest employment count of the year.

The figures come from a report released by the state Workforce Investment Board. The national unemployment rate also was down by 0.1% to 5.5%.

The state unemployment board reported 73,500 people were out of work last month, down 1700 from June. Arkansas' jobless rate was 6.3% in July 2003, with 79,100 unemployed.
