Officials Need Help Building Memorial

Posted August 8, 2004--7:00 pm CDT

Rector, AR--The city ofRector is looking for the area’s help in constructing a new veteran’s memorial.  The city has already drawn up plans for a 10 foot wide 56 inch tall structure to remember all veterans.  Plans call for the structure to be made out of granite with commemorative bricks lining the path to the memorial.

Glenn Leach who is the chairman over the project says they need about ten thousand dollars in order to get the project started.  They are hoping purchases of the commemorative bricks will help them close in on their goal.  “The bricks are several denominations and you will have three lines with twelve characters per line”, Leach said, “You can put whatever you choose to honor that special person.”

Rector is no stranger to memorials.  Shortly after World War I a wooden memorial was erected in the same park the new memorial will call home.  The wooden memorial could not stand the test of time, a test Leach is sure the new memorial will ace.

Commemorative bricks begin at just 100 dollars for three lines.  All five branches of the military including the Coast Guard are honored.
