Student arrested after police say he brought marijuana, loaded gun to school

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) – A Blytheville student was arrested after police find marijuana and a gun during two searches.

According to a press release from Captain Scott Adams with the Blytheville Police Department, officers were contacted by schools officials on February 27, after school staff smelled marijuana coming from the locker of a 16 year old student.

When officers searched his locker, they say they found 1.6 grams of marijuana in an envelope. After being questioned by officers about the envelope, the student reportedly snatched it and ran.

Officers caught him, but police say he then tried to swallow the marijuana.

Officers placed the student in handcuffs and searched. During that search, they reportedly found a loaded defaced .22 caliber revolver.

He was arrested and taken to the Blytheville Police Department where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of drugs and firearm
  • Possession of firearm on school property
  • Possession of defaced firearm
  • Possession of controlled substance
  • Resisting arrest
  • Fleeing
  • Tampering with evidence

The student was turned over to the juvenile services and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.
