MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - New details are emerging from the woman who married a Ridgeway High School basketball player, who falsified his transcript.

The boys basketball team was disqualified from the state tournament after it was revealed that 18-year-old McKinzey Sewell was ineligible to play.

It was later discovered that Sewell was married to a 34-year-old woman, whose son also used to be Sewell's teammate.

"I didn't have no gun to him," said Sewell's wife, Chaundrea. "He asked me to marry him."

She added, "Oh my God, I don't know what I was thinking."

Both Chaundrea and Sewell say either an annulment or a divorce is in their future.

"He is very smart, very intelligent. I wouldn't have dealt with him if he wasn't, but he is being manipulated by them. And he in turn manipulated me. I know I'm older than him but it can happen," said Chaundrea.

A regional superintendent told Action News 5 that Memphis City Schools found out about the fraudulent transcripts last week when they looked into Sewell's file after his 19-year-old girlfriend accused his wife of harassment via text message.

Chaundrea denies the claims.

Now, Sewell's families are dueling over who is responsible for the entire scandal.

"She said she was affiliated with Ridgeway High School some kind of way," explained McKini Spain, Sewell's aunt. "She said she knew someone and she talked to someone over there and they said, 'We can get him into school.'"

Sewell says he wants to go to college and play basketball.

His wife says she is going to try to find something positive from this experience.
