NASW holds 5th annual conference at Convocation Center

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Northeast Arkansas branch of the National Association of Social Workers held it's 5th annual conference at Arkansas State University's Convocation Center today.

Professor of Social Work, Dr. Loretta Brewer, says each year they work to pick current social topics to go over with experts during the conference.
This year they decided to address the issue of military service men and women transitioning back into civilian life.
"When people come home the excitement is almost overwhelming, but then after the excitement dies down we also need to be prepared to provide the support to help people integrate back into civilian life," Dr. Brewer said.

An awards ceremony was held to name the "Master Social Work Student of the Year", Joetta Whitaker; "Agency of the Year", The Mission Outreach Charitable Clinic; "Public Citizen of the Year", Dr. Albert Fonticiella; and the "Social Worker of the Year", Dr. Loretta Brewer.
