Under Investigative hold, man dies of cardiac arrest

JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – Officials from the Jackson County Detention Center performed CPR on an inmate while he was suffering from cardiac arrest.

According to Sheriff David Lucas, an inmate was found at around 8:45 Wednesday morning. Detention center personnel then began CPR on 37-year-old James Alfred Elliott the third from Tuckerman.

They notified the Newport Ambulance service and he was transported to the Harris Hospital Emergency room. Elliott died at 9:20 Wednesday morning.

The body was taken to Jackson's Funeral Home in Newport and will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

He was being held at the detention center under an investigative hold for the Independence County Sheriff's Office.

Elliott was booked into the detention center on Tuesday night at 11:51.
