HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Jockey Calvin Borel has claimed career win No. 5,000 at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.
Oaklawn spokeswoman Jennifer Hoyt says Borel picked up the win Thursday. Details of the race were not immediately available.
The Oaklawn season began in January with Borel having 4,999 career wins and expected to win his 5,000th race early in the season. However - a broken wrist he suffered just days before the season started delayed his quest.
Borel returned in February but did not ride a winner until Thursday.
Be becomes the 26th North American jockey with 5,000 wins and he's a 3-time winner of the Kentucky Derby.
