College Goal Sunday helps those filing for financial aid

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - College Goal Sunday is a program created to help guide both students and their parents through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.

"That's the application that student file to receive a pell grant, work study and student loans," Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships Terry Finney.

For many parents, the first time filling out a FAFSA form can lead to confusion and a lot of questions.

"A lot of the people that we see today are coming in for the first time. This is their first son or daughter that's going to school they've never filled out a FAFSA," said Finney.

Karen Simpson is mom and step mom to two senior girls and said the event made the process simple from start to finish.

"First I thought there would be a line, I thought it would take a long time but it didn't. We got right in," said Simpson.

With the help of financial aid counselors, her and her daughters were able to fix mistakes they had made in an attempt to do it on their own.

"We tried to do it at home and made a few mistakes and when I got this information I thought we'd come up here and they helped us correct everything," said Simpson.

Simpson's daughter agreed. The second go around was much easier than their first attempt.

"I tried doing it at home of course I messed up. It took me about an hour or two I think and here it only took me about ten minutes," said Zoe Terrell.
