JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Jonesboro Fire Department has rescued a man trapped in a trench.

According to the Jonesboro Fire Department, the man became trapped in a trench on Thousand Oaks Road and Brandywine around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

JFD tells Region 8 News the man was freed around 8:00 p.m.  He has been flown to the Med in Memphis. JFD says it looks like the man is okay.

JFD says a crew was working in the trench as part of home construction in the area when the man became trapped. Rescuers say he was covered up to his waist.

JFD says the man was alert, talking with rescue workers during the rescue effort. He reportedly told crews,  "He's tired, hungry, and wanted to go home."

Rescuers say there were two holes around the man and the recent rains complicated rescue efforts.

An ambulance and Air-Evac were on scene as a precaution.
