Jonesboro Man Dies in Accident on Memphis-Arkansas Bridge

WEST MEMPHIS, AR - An Arkansas man was killed when three vehicles collided and caught fire on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge on Interstate-40 over the Mississippi River.  The accident occured at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday evening, when a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Alexander Smith of Jonesboro struck a pick-up that was stopped in the eastbound lanes of the bridge.  Smith's vehicle bounced off the stopped pick-up, and was then struck by an eastbound 18-wheeler.

 Smith died in the crash.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pick-up, identified as a Byhalia, Mississippi man, was arrested by Memphis police and faces charges of Driving Under the Influence and Public Intoxication.
