Dog shot after charging at officers, resident

Posted: Updated:

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) – A dog had to be put down after an officer shot it while responding to a call of an attempted attack.

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers responded to the report of a vicious dog at the 300 block of Emerson Street on March 22. A resident told police there was a brown and white pit bull terrier in his yard who had tried to attack him.

Officers investigated the area and found the dog at the back of the home. When they found the dog police say it charged at officers and the resident.

According to the news release, an officer shot the dog because he was "in fear of his safety and others".

The pit bull ran away and officers found the wounded animal on the morning of March 23.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian where it was euthanized due to its injuries.
