GREERS FERRY, AR (KAIT)- Prescribed burns are on the schedule for areas around Greers Ferry Lake when favorable weather conditions move into the area.

The Army Corps of Engineers Greers Ferry Project Office personnel in coordination with the Arkansas Forestry Commission and other state agencies will conduct prescribed burns around Greers Ferry Lake park areas during the next few months.

Areas where timber stands were thinned to improve stand health and enhance wildlife value are on the docket. The burning will support annual re-establishment of native grasses and herbaceous species that will create food resources and increase cover for wildlife foraging.

Burning within developed parks will also reduce leaf accumulation and decrease the chances of a damaging wild fire during the summer recreation season.
