ADEQ Denies Permit for Charcoal Kiln in Randolph County

The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has denied a permit application for a proposed charcoal kiln to be located near Maynard in northern Randolph County.

A previous application for a charcoal kiln for the same location was withdrawn last year by another applicant.  David Brawley withdrew the original application before ADEQ made a formal decision after his controversial plans drew several protests from residents and landowners in the area.

The current application was made by James Rhodes, under the corporate name of Arkansas Charcoal, Inc.  The denial cites Rhodes' failure to submit information to prove that Arkansas Charcoal was the owner of property where the proposed kiln would have been located.
