ST. LOUIS, Mo. (AMCSportsOnline.com) – Lyon College junior pitcher Ben Neyen and Park University senior center fielder Chris Booth are the AMC Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week after leading their teams to three wins each over the last seven days.
Neyen gave up eight hits and a run in the Scots' 14-1 win over Williams Baptist, recording nine strikeouts without a walk. With the victory, he moved his record to 6-2 on the year with a 1.69 ERA. His six wins ranks him 28th nationally. It was also his four complete game appearance in nine starts.
A Carrollton, Texas, native, Neyen currently ranks 38th in total strikeouts in the NAIA, with 48 in 53.1 innings. His earned run average currently ranks 48th in the nation and he has also only walked 18 batters in 2013 for the 25th-ranked Scots, who entered play this week with a 30-7 record.
Booth, a senior from Independence, Mo., scorched Hannibal-LaGrange pitching last week for 10 hits in 13 at bats, a .769 average, recording five doubles, a home run and 13 RBIs with a .885 slugging percentage. He began the four-game series with a 3-for-3 outing, scoring a run and earning one of his five walks on the week.
He had two more hits and two more runs in the second and fourth games of the series, and in game three, an 8-4 win, he doubled three times with four RBIs, a 3-for-4, two-run outing. Booth drove in six runs in game two, an 11-6 win.
