OSHP 'Operation Shield' nets drugs, guns, stolen vehicle

COLUMBUS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted a statewide enforcement initiative, known as Operation Shield Ohio, from March 18-21 in an ongoing effort to remove the criminal element from Ohio's roadways.

The successful enforcement initiative resulted in 49 drug cases, including 17 felony cases. Troopers seized nearly 10 pounds of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine, 50 grams of heroin, and 764 illegal prescription pills. They also seized three guns and recovered a stolen vehicle.

"Successful enforcement efforts, like the most recent Operation Shield, illustrate the collective power of removing drugs and wanted felons from our communities," said Col. John Born, OSHP superintendent. "Ohio is in the midst of a drug abuse epidemic and it is important that we work together to solve this problem."

In 2013 alone, the OSHP has made around two dozen busts statewide.

The Patrol urges the public to call #677 to report drug activity.
