IZARD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – The Izard County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of a scam being reported around the county.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Some residents have received a check for $3,850. They are asked to deposit that check into their bank account. It supposedly would cover a processing fee that you are asked to pay that will enable you to receive a "grand prize" of $225,000.

The company letterhead indicates they are Nova Capital Financial Services out of Los Angeles, California.

Sheriff Tate Lawrence says these documents are clearly a scam and just a way for some criminals to take your hard earned money. He strongly recommends that you not respond to this offer.

If it sounds too good to be true, then it likely is such.
