Former mayor heads to court on bigamy charge

(WMC-TV) - The former mayor of Oakland, Tennessee will have some explaining to do in court Thursday. He said "I do" to one woman while he was already married to someone else.

Scott Ferguson is currently out on bond after turning himself in to Crittenden County authorities this week on a bigamy charge.

Court documents show Ferguson married Miguelina Mora, who lives in Cordova, on Valentine's Day in West Memphis, Arkansas.

The problem is he's still married to Laurie Ferguson, the mother of his four children in Tennessee.

Now, after less than two months of marriage, Mora is asking for a divorce or annulment.

Ferguson admitted to Action News 5 last month when he resigned that he stepped down as Oakland Mayor because of his infidelity to his wife, Laurie.

And you'll recall a photo showing a shirtless Ferguson blew up on the internet while he was still mayor.

Right now, we're told Ferguson is living in Jonesboro with his father. No one answered the door at the home when we went looking for answers.

But Ferguson may talk today when he shows up for court in Crittenden County. If convicted, Ferguson could be hit with a fine and serve up to 11 months and 29 days behind bars. We'll let you know what happens.
