INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A possible case of child abuse is being investigated after authorities in Independence County were contacted by health officials.
According to the Independence County Sheriff's Department, a doctor told officers that nurses contacted Department of Human Services who then contacted authorities.
On Wednesday night the four month old was found to be suffering from a broken left arm and three broken ribs. The doctor at the White River Medical Center told officers the baby was seen once before on March 20. On that day, x-rays were taken of the child's spine and chest. Doctors say they found a broken clavicle as a result of those x-rays.
The infant was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital for further treatment.
The investigation has been turned over to Sharp County authorities since Independence County investigators determined the alleged abuse may have occurred in Cave City.
No charges have been filed in this case and the investigation is ongoing.
