Arkansas Travelers catcher suspended for violating MILB drug program

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Travelers' catcher Carlos Ramirez has been handed a 50-game suspension for a second-offense drug violation.

The Class AA Texas League Travelers said Friday that the California Angels organization has signed free agent catcher Mark Fleury as a replacement.

The 25-year-old Ramirez was selected from Arizona State in the eighth round of the 2009 draft. Last year with the Travs, he hit .204 with two homers and 23 RBIs in 275 at-bats.

The 24-year-old Fleury was released by the Cincinnati Reds at spring training. He spent four years with the organization was the main catcher at the Reds' Double-A club in Pensacola last year.

The Travs were scheduled for a Friday night doubleheader with Frisco at Dickey-Stephens Park to open the season.
