Residents take advantage of warm weather at local park

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Spring weather has finally arrived and some people did not waste any time getting to the great outdoors.

Craighead Forest Park was filled with people fishing, jogging even having picnics. One parent decided it was the perfect day for a party.

"We are taking advantage of this weather by getting out and celebrating my little boy's third birthday party here," said parent, Lashea Robinson.

Robinson said it was the perfect day to take the party to the park. She said the warm weather is her favorite thing about Spring.

"Just being outside and being able to get out and barbecue," she said.

But Robinson was not the only person out enjoying the warm weather. Howard French was at the park fishing.

"I'm enjoying this warm weather plus the sun and my boy is enjoying being out here fishing," French said. He said he is happy to see the change in nature.

"When it's warm and the leaves start coming back on the trees. It's so drab looking in the winter time when there are no leaves," he said.

Next to Howard at the fishing area was Steve Myers who brought along his two daughters.

"We like to come out here and go fishing," Myers said. "Fish for a bit then the girls will go play and just enjoy it. It's about time Spring got here."

He said him and his family are finally able to do some of their favorite outdoors activities.

"Just being able to go outdoors and do things," he said. "Usually camping, fishing or just playing, just anything outside."

But fishing and parties were not the only thing going on in the park on Saturday. There was also an Easter pageant. Over 50 parents came out to see their child walk across the stage in their Easter outfit. There was also an Easter egg hunt.

The warm weather is expected to stick around throughout the weekend.
