First lady Michelle Obama will speak at Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School's graduation on May 18, the White House announced Thursday.

MLK magnet school recently opened a community supported wellness center and students tend to a community garden. Veterans and health and wellness are causes of the first lady.

The magnet school has also been recognized for its curriculum and high graduation rate.

"Everyone's really excited. I think it's fantastic," said MLK senior Sam Klockenkemper. "It's really exciting to see that we're getting this kind of attention. I never really thought getting some healthy vending machines and a fitness center would lead to this, but it's pretty surreal."

"A lot of kids don't get this opportunity, so I was taken aback. I'm not going to be afraid to admit I cried," said MLK senior Jenika Headley.

MLK Magnet School has a 100-percent graduation rate. Next year, every single student will either pursue post-secondary education or enter the military.

The first lady visited Nashville twice in 2012, including when she spoke in June to the African Methodist Episcopal Church convention at the Gaylord Opryland Resort.

About 10,000 people listened to the first lady speak about the importance of community involvement.

She also attended a luncheon in early 2012 to raise campaign money for her husband's reelection bid.

Mrs. Obama will also address graduates at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond on May 11 and at Bowie State University in Bowie, Md., on May 17.

Eastern Kentucky was chosen for its commitment to veterans' education.
