(RNN) – A family wants everyone to see their son's last words because those words cost him his life.

Alexander Heit, 22, of Greeley, CO, loved snowboarding, hiking and was a good student at The University of Northern Colorado, where he was studying audiology.

Heit, whose driving record was spotless, died in a single-car rollover accident on April 3. In the wreckage, police found a phone with a text conversation.

"Sounds good my man, seeya soon, ill tw" was entered in the phone's display, but was never sent.

Witnesses said that Heit had his head down and drifted into the oncoming lane, looked up and jerked the steering wheel, overcorrecting his path. His car left the roadway and flipped.

"I can't bear the thought of anyone else having to go through something like this," said his mom, Sharon Heit in a police news release. "Please, vow to never, never text and drive. In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you."

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than nine people are killed and 1,060 are injured every day in crashes that involve a distracted driver.

Although 39 states have outlawed texting while driving, a recent survey conducted by AT&T and published by USAToday showed adults are texting while driving more often than teenagers, regardless of laws.
