Possible tornado displaces families in East TN

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee officials have declared a state of emergency after reports of a possible tornado and damage in Monroe County.

County Emergency Management Director Brian Turpin said about 8-10 families have been displaced by the storm that hit the town of Madisonville and unincorporated parts of the county in the far-southeastern part of the state.

There are no reports of injuries.

Turpin said the county's 911 line has received multiple reports of damage to homes, barns and other structures. Trees also were downed throughout the county, causing about 2,500 people to lose power at one point.

Officials are investigating whether the damage was caused by a tornado.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency issued the emergency declaration at 9:25 p.m. CST Thursday.
