SUNBRIGHT, Tenn. (AP) - Three Tennessee women are facing charges after speaking out at a City Council meeting.
WATE-TV and WBIR-TV report Sandra Spurling, Machelle Cooper and Joann Henry were arrested and jailed for speaking out of turn at Thursday night's Sunbright City Council meeting.
Police Chief Allen Dagley says the meetings are open to the public, but those who wish to speak must be listed on an agenda in advance of the meeting. He says they "can't just interrupt and disrupt the meeting."
Spurling, a former recorder for the city, was the first to get arrested for speaking. The other two women, who are related to her, spoke out to support her.
All three have bonded out of jail and have an April 18 court date.
