Seven A-State women's golfers receive Sun Belt academic honors

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. ( — The Arkansas State women's golf team placed five current and two former student-athletes on either the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll or Commissioner's List as announced at the league championships being played today through Wednesday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals.

Current A-State players Anna Carling (Sr., Cardiff, Wales), Anna Flanrey (Jr., Paragould, Ark.), Jennifer Loiacano (Sr., Jonesboro, Ark.), Courtney Manning (Jr., Auckland, New Zealand) and Clara Tefteller (Paragould, Ark.) all earned a spot on the 2011-12 Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List, which recognizes those student-athletes who maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the previous two semesters.

Named to the 2011-12 Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll, former Red Wolves Jennifer Welch (Little Rock, Ark.) and Jelena Latinovic (Novi Sad, Serbia) were also recognized at the tournament banquet held Sunday.  The Academic Honor Roll List includes student-athletes that maintained a a grade point average of 3.00 to 3.49 for the previous two semesters.

"I am thrilled that seven out of our nine players on last year's team made the Commissioner's List or Academic Honor Roll," said A-State head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw.  "It is an amazing accomplishment and a tremendous effort to manage studies and golf."

The Red Wolves completed the 2012-13 Sun Belt Conference Championship's first round Monday in 10th place.  The tournament will resume Tuesday morning with the second round, while the third and final round will be played Wednesday.
