CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KFVS) -

A Caruthersville High School student was killed in a crash on the way to school Tuesday morning.

According to Caruthersville High School principal John-Mark Jones, Ashley Woods was a senior at the high school.

"It's a loss for everyone," said Principal Jones. "It's a loss for the community, a loss to the school, and a loss to us personally. I've known Ashley for four years, I've been her principal for four years. A little piece of me, a big piece of me has been taken away today."

The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Ward in Caruthersville.

According to Caruthersville Police Chief Tony Jones, Woods lost control and ran off the road.

Counselors are on location at the school along with Ministerial Alliance to help students.
