FIU leads Sun Belt Conference Championship after second round as MacLaren shoots 68

A number of competitors at the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship went low in the second round Tuesday as three individuals were able to break 70 and a total of five players shot below par.

The three day SBC Championship is being held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala.  11 teams consisting of five players each are competing for team and individual honors.

FIU enters Wednesday's final round with the overall team lead after having shot a team total of 287 today to follow up the team best 298 from Monday's first round.   The Panthers lead Middle Tennessee by six strokes as the Blue Raiders shot a 291 today after shooting 300 on Monday. 

Panther freshman Meghan MacLaren continues to impress as she held on to her first day lead by firing a tournament low 68 (-4).  MacLaren stands alone at the top of the individual leaderboard at five under par.  Teammate Sophie Godley joined her with a sub-70 round, shooting 69 (-3) Tuesday after starting with four consecutive birdies en route to a front nine score of 31.

The Blue Raiders were led by Avery George's 69 (-3) and Olivia Love's 70 (-2) on Tuesday.  Love Tsits in second place in the individual standings, while George is eighth.

Ashleigh Ryals from South Alabama shot the day's other under par round with a 71 (-1).  Ryals is in ninth place in the individual standings.

The 2013 SBC Women's Golf Championship resumes Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. for the final round.  For live stats and additional coverage please go to www.sunbeltsports.org.
