Arkansas State women's bowling coach Justin Kostick announced Wednesday that
Brooke Wood (Davison, Mich.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue
her career at A-State.
Wood is the daughter of Jeremy and Monaca Wood and is a senior at Davison High School. She's a four-year starter and has had a very accomplished high school career that includes four All-Conference First Team awards (2010-2013), two All-Academic District Team honors (2012 and 2013), Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association Division I All-State Second Team (2012), MHSIBCA Division I All-State Academic Team (2013), and MHSIBCA Division I All-State First Team (2013).
She was the 2013 Saginaw Valley Conference Female High Average (205) and Female Most Valuable Player. She won the 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division I Regional Championship and took third place at the MHSAA Division 1 State Individual Event in 2012. She bowled a 300 game on December 27, 2012 and rolled a high series of 753, a 251 average, on December 13, 2012.
"Adding someone of Brooke's caliber in the late signing period is a pleasant surprise," Kostick said. "She is very experienced with her high school and club background. I look for her to compete with the current players here right away."
In addition to her individual accomplishments, Wood led Davison High School to back-to-back MHSAA Division 1 State Championships in 2012 and 2013, a MHSAA Division 1 State runner-up in 2010, three MHSAA Division 1 regional titles from 2011-2013, and four district conference championships from 2010-2013. She was the 2013 team captain, anchoring in all matches, and named team's MVP in 2012 and 2013.
Wood also excels off the lanes with a 3.745 GPA and has been an honor roll student her entire academic career. She is involved with several tutoring positions at local schools and volunteers frequently with her church. In February 2013 she was named the Kiwanis Club of Flint's Female Student Athlete of the Month.
Wood will join a Red Wolves squad that finished the season with a school -record 91 wins and fresh off an appearance in the national semifinals.
