Officer involved in crash with drunken driving suspect

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer was taken to the hospital after a crash downtown early Friday morning.

Around 2:25 a.m., the officer was traveling west on Charlotte Avenue and had a flashing yellow light.

A white GMC Sonoma pickup was southbound on 17th Avenue and ran a red flashing light.

The police car struck the pickup in the passenger door. Neither the driver or passenger of the pickup were injured.

The officer was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, but his injuries appear to be minor, said police.

The driver of the pickup was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
