DUTCHTOWN, MO (KFVS) -

Around 50 Missouri National Guard soldiers have been sent to Dutchtown to help with sandbagging.

Michelle Quesar with the Missouri National Guard says about 50 members from the 1140th engineer battalion have been deployed to Dutchtown.

The group may limit traffic in the area for periods of time as they work.

Dawn Moss, a Dutchtown resident, says she's ready for whatever comes her way.

"It's not going to scare us off," Moss said. "We are going to stay."

She credits the help of others in providing comfort for her and her family.

"The one thing that I've noticed out of all of this is I've never lived in a place where the community sticks together so much," Moss said.

A group of Junior ROTC students from Charleston came down, Firefighters from Scott county rural changed their plans and about 50 men and women from the 1140th engineer battalion national guard stopped by.

It is certainly appreciated by Moss.

"This is amazing," Moss said. "I am so thankful."

Due to the lack of sand and bags, 10 members of the group will collect more sandbags from Caruthersville and deliver them to Dutchtown.

The Mississippi River causes concern for houses and businesses in Dutchtown.

Sandbagging operations started Sunday with the worry of the river rising faster than they can build up the levee in Dutchtown.
