A-State Men’s Golf Seventh After SBC Championship’s First Round

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (ASU) — Led by two players completing the Sun Belt Conference Championships' first round among the top-25 individual leaders, the Arkansas State men's golf team shot a 300 Monday on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals to finish the 54-hole tournament's first day in seventh place out of 11 teams.

The Red Wolves currently stand three strokes ahead of eighth-place Louisiana-Lafayette and trail seventh-place Troy by only one.  South Alabama leads the field with a 284, while UALR is in second place with a 293 and three schools are tied for third with a 295.

Chance Holden carded a 1-over par 73, placing him tied for 10th and in strong contention for his fourth top-15 finish of the season.  Joining Holden among the top-25 leaders was teammate Easton Key, who is tied for 14th place after shooting a 74.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, Seth Garner is tied for 28th place with a 76, Wessel Zwiegers tied for 35th with a 77 and Matt Howton 54th with an 87.

The tournament's second round will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
