JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - If you applied for a concealed handgun carry license with the Arkansas State Police, Director Stan Witt says be patient.
Colonel Witt says expect about a three month wait before you hear back from the agency. The Arkansas State Police received over 26,000 applications in the first three months of 2013, a substantial increase over their normal requests for that same period of time.
Col. Witt, during a speech with the Jonesboro Kiwanis Club Wednesday, said there are currently 136,000 concealed carry permits in Arkansas.
Witt told the group the agency receives more requests in the wake of mass shooting events such as the Sandy Hook Massacre. He also said they have not seen an increase in crime or safety issues with the additional concealed carry permits in Arkansas.
