For his noteworthy performance at this past weekend's Vanderbilt Invitational, Arkansas State University's Kashef Daniel has earned this week's (April 24) Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Outdoor Track Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor. The announcement was made late Wednesday (April 24) evening by the conference.
Daniel, a junior, claimed top honors in the high jump at last Saturday's (April 20) Vanderbilt Invitational with a personal career-best 6-11.46 (2.12m) performance. Daniel's first-place effort presently ranks second among the conference's top outdoor efforts this season and is currently tied for 28th place among the NCAA West Region qualifiers this spring.
With his selection, Daniel is the fifth Arkansas State track and field student-athlete to earn weekly Sun Belt Conference honors this outdoor season and represents the third week in a row in which A-State has claimed conference men's field athlete of the week laurels. Chris Nicasio (April 10) and Will Oliver (April 17), both juniors, were previous recipients. Two other juniors, Kristina Aubert (March 27) and Sharika Nelvis (April 17) each received women's track athlete of the weekrecognition from the conference.
Arkansas State will be hosting its second annual Red Wolves Open this weekend (April26-27) at the ASU Track and Field Facility in Jonesboro, Ark. The non-scoring meet starts this Friday (April 26) at 3 p.m. (CT) and resumes Saturday (April 27) at 10 a.m. (CT). Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
