Bono Man Arrested for Beating Child, Allegedly Confesses to 1998 Beating Death of 5-Week Old Daughter

AUGUST 23, 2004 - Posted at 5:12 p.m. CDT

BONO, AR - A Bono man has been charged with beating and severely injuring his 11-week-old son, and police have learned of other possible crimes by the suspect as a result of their investigation.

Police arrested 28-year-old Joshua Pfeifer over the weekend.  Authorities say Pfeifer confessed to them that he intentionally injured his baby because the child would not stop crying.  The boy suffered a number of injuries, including a broken arm and skull fracture, and is currently hospitalized in Little Rock at Arkansas Childrens Hospital.

Meanwhile, authorities say Pfeiffer also admitted to them that he killed his five-week old daughter in a similar fashion in Ohio in 1998.  That child is reportedly now buried in a Craighead County cemetery near Bono.

Pfeifer also has two other young children.  "We're going to contact Family Services to see what needs to be done with those children in order to protect them," said Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann.

The case is being jointly investigated by the Sheriff's Department and the Jonesboro Police Department.
