From the Sun Belt Conference
After claiming the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship, North Texas headlined the All-Sun Belt Conference teams by placing a pair of student-athletes on the first-team and one on the second-team, the league office announced Thursday.
Rodolfo Cazaubon, a senior from Tampico, Mexico, earned a spot on the first-team for the Mean Green after posting a 214 at the SBC Championship. He shot four under par 68 in the second round. Cazaubon tallied three first place finishes on the season and a runner-up.
Classmate Carlos Ortiz, from Jalisco, Mexico, finished close behind at the SBC Championships with a 219 score to also earn All-Conference First-Team honors. On the year, Ortiz recorded five top-10 finishes including a pair in the top-5 to compile a season score of 73.03.
Sophomore Jason Roets, from Johannesburg, South Africa earned second-team accolades to round it out for the Mean Green.
NT head coach Brad Stracke was named Coach of the Year in his fifth season after winning the SBC Championship title two years in a row.
With three first place finishes and a season shooting average of 71.96, Georgia State's Jonathan Grey was named SBC Freshman of the Year and All-Conference First Team. Grey finished fourth at the Sun Belt Conference Championship where he shot a four under par 68 in the second round. The Kent, England native registered a total of six top-10 finishes this season in a total of 11 tournaments.
GSU sophomore Davin White, from Griffin, Ga., earned All-Conference Second-Team honors with a season average of 73.90.
South Alabama placed a pair on the All-Conference First-Team as sophomores Michael Garretson and Tyler Klava earned the honors.
Garretson, an Acworth, Ga. product, turned in a pair of second-place finishes on the season and an average score of 73.56. Klava ended with three top-10 finishes and an average score of 74.44.
Louisiana-Lafayette's Brandt Garon completed the All-Conference First-Team with a seventh-place finish at the SBC Championships and a fourth-place result at the 28th Annual Louisiana Classics where he shot a 68 (-4) in the second round. The senior from Baton Rouge, La., averaged a score of 73.82 on the season.
Troy placed a pair of student athletes on the All-Conference Second-Team including sophomores Tolver Dozier and Jake Tucker. Sophomores Alfred Kerstis from UALR and Payne Denman from Middle Tennessee earned second-team honors as well after stellar seasons.
The two all-conference teams were selected by a vote of the league's head men's golf coaches.
