NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

George Jones was buried Thursday afternoon at Woodlawn Cemetery near Thompson Lane, but there will be plenty of other musicians right there with him - thanks to a decision Jones made several years ago.

"Generous George Jones" was not one of his many nicknames, but it was the rock-solid truth.

As Jones was taken from the Opry House one last time, it's impossible not to remark on one of his most private, generous acts that many of his close friends never knew about.

Jones had purchased 30 cemetery plots at Woodlawn Cemetery to give to artists who die penniless.

"That's what a lot of people don't know. They don't know that side of him," said former band member Rod Gaddis.

"Unbelievable. I love George Jones like you wouldn't believe," said former band member James Holly.

Grand Ole Opry member Johnny Paycheck is also buried at Woodlawn Cemetery - one of Jones' friends is now a neighbor thanks to Jones' generosity.
