CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO - What's left of the old Mississippi River bridge in Cape Girardeau will be blasted Thursday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation recommends that anyone wishing to view the 6 a.m. blast of the second span of the old bridge do so from the downtown riverfront.

The blast will result in the demolition of the remaining bridge trusses and supports closest to Illinois.  MoDot will close off the area to all foot and vehicle traffic within a 1,500 foot radius of the site.

The new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge will be closed for ten minutes prior to and after the explosion.
