Cousin accused of harboring teen murder suspect says he's innocent

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man accused of harboring teenage murder suspect Eric Goodner surrender to authorities late Saturday in Nashville but said he is innocent.

Nicholas Goodner, 23, was booked into the Metro jail at about 7:30 p.m. and released a short time later on $10,000 bond.

Metro police believe Nicholas Goodner asked his girlfriend, Quantrese Upkins, to let his cousin Eric Goodner, 17, stay at their apartment.

Nicholas Goodner said in an exclusive interview with Channel 4 that Upkins was not his girlfriend, just a friend of his.  He added that he is innocent, as well as his cousin, Eric.

"My cousin is innocent, and stop trying to make him look guilty.  Because in America, you're innocent until proven guilty," said Nicholas Goodner.

Nicholas Goodner said he has not seen or spoken to his cousin since the fatal hooting of Pearl Cohn High School student Jonathan Johnson.  He adamantly denies any part of helping his cousin hide out for several weeks since the shooting.

Johnson was killed April 11 in north Nashville while walking from his house to a bus stop.

Nicholas Goodner and Upkins are both charged with accessory after the fact.

Eric Goodner has been charged with criminal homicide.
