Crews respond to house fire near Tyler Pounds airport

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Crews are currently on the scene of a house fire off of Highway 64 in Smith County, near Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

The home is located in the 13-thousand block of Airways drive. This is located in a neighborhood just south of Highway 64 near the airport.

Initial reports indicated that flames were visible and that there was heavy smoke. Crews have extinguished the flames. Neighbors say about one third of the home was damaged in this fire, but we have not yet received any word from fire officials. We are also being told by neighbors that the fire started in the kitchen, but that is an un-confirmed report.

Neighbors tell us Michael Ray and Joyce Barrett are the owners of the home, and are currently on vacation in Jackson, Mississippi, but that they are returning as soon as possible.

Nobody was in the home when the fire started and we are being told that no injuries have been reported.
