Facebook video catches theft suspect

(WMC-TV) - A Facebook video posted by an East Memphis man helped catch a theft suspect within hours.

Suspect Richard Snyder, 48, failed to notice a surveillance camera was pointing right at him when loading up a table saw and other woodworking equipment into his pickup truck.

Jim Mathews installed a camera system around his Quince Road and Perkins Road area home following several previous thefts.

"I put one camera there, and one in the backyard to watch the shed," said Matthews.

The first things Mathews did Monday morning after seeing a crime caught on his own camera was post the video on Facebook. He shared it with Memphis Police.

"And the guy who took the report kept looking at it and looking at it and said he'd seen the guy before," said Mathews.

Snyder has an extensive record for similar crimes. He was in custody in no time.

Mathews believes Snyder deserves whatever he gets for taking tools he uses to make an honest living.
